Joel Block

Member of the Assembly, 72nd AD



Joel Block, an identical twin with identical twin sons, has the education and broad life experiences necessary to be an effective leader in the California legislature. He has a graduate LLM law degree from NYU Law School in addition to his JD and BA.

He has been a blue collar worker and university union leader in Michigan. He has been a labor attorney for journalists at The New York Times, Reuters, Fortune and other major news media.

He has represented federal, state and local government employees, including police officers and firefighters. He has negotiated with Hollywood studios on behalf of screen, television and internet writers. He has taught at UCLA Extension and CSU Dominguez Hills.

For 10 years he was an advocate for California State University in state-wide negotiations and arbitrations. As a retiree, he has been active in his son's schools, in the PTA and in his community, Rossmoor, California. His wife of 29 years, Wendy, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Joel's extensive life experiences and negotiation skills make him highly qualified to represent the 72nd Assembly District.
